PASSERIFORMES: Petroicidae
Petroica goodenovii
Male Red-capped Robin.
Australian robins were supposedly so named because of their similarity to the English (or European) Robin.
Despite the latter being commonly known as Robin Redbreast and being regularly depicted on Christmas cards, etc, as such, it actually has a browny-orange breast.
Several of the Australian robins are much brighter coloured, and to my mind the Red-capped Robin has the most vividly red breast of them all.
Not to mention, it has a matching cap.
Did I mention that it's also my favourite robin?
